Dereck Lalonde was hired as the Red Wing’s head coach, replacing former Head Coach Jeff Blashill. Lalonde was most recently an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won two Stanley Cups in 2020 & 2021 and reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2022. Lalonde was hired as a Lightning assistant in 2018 by then-GM Steve Yzerman.
Lalonde has coached professionally since 1998 making stops at Ferris State University, the University of Denver, the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, the Toledo Walley (Red Wings’ Affiliate) of the ECHL, and the Iowa Wild of the AHL.
