Moritz Seider Wins Calder Trophy

Yzerplan paying dividends as Detroit defenseman named rookie of the year, the first for a Red Wing since 1964-65.

Seider scored 50 points to lead all rookie defensemen, the most points by a Red Wings rookie defenseman since Nicklas Lidstrom scored 60 in 1991-92. Drafted 6th overall in 2019, Seider received 170 of the 195 first-place votes available.

The Calder Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the Rookie of the Year, the Calder trophy has been awarded since the 1936-37 season. Named after the first president of the NHL, Frank Calder, the award is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
